Just spent 4 days in Guyana. Pleasantly surprised about a lot of things - mainly that the rubbish which appeared to be clogging up the system has been removed from Main, Camp and other streets. I understand that citizens will be prosecuted if found dumping. I am not sure whether they will be given Community Service if they are unable to pay the fine or sent to the oevercrowded jail!!! We stayed in a beautiful place - the Herdmanston Lodge - to be highly recommended. Situated at the corner of Peter Rose and Laluni Streets. Building works going on to extend the complex to Lamaha Street. Well appointed place. Polite, mannerly, well trained and well attired staff. And devoid of mosquitoes despite the leafy nature of the locality. I met a young girl in th dining room who is on work-placement from the Carnegie School. Great idea!. You can sit in the restaurant and enjoy the cooling sea breeze. And folks, it is all Guyanese!!!
