Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis is a chronic disease characterizes by persistent joint inflammation: the typical signs of joint inflammation are pain, swelling and limitation of movement. JIA is a rare disease that affects about 80-90 per 100,000 children. There are different types of the disease and the doctors are leaning toward Systemic JIA. The main systemic symptom is represented by high spiking fever, often accompanied by salmon coloured rash that appears during fever spikes. Other symptoms may include muscle pain, enlargement of the liver, inflammation of membranes around the heart and lungs. The doctors plan on giving Kevin Corticosteroids after the bone marrow biopsy. He is currently taking anakinra, a new drug which is doing wonders right now. Thanks to Dr. Gotcsik for the information on JIA.
