Atty. Batas Mauricio, this is my opinion on lawyers talking on the merits of the case through the media. As an active legal counselor, we call the activity the `pre-emptive perception action’, the trend in managing sensational cases. “It is a combined `use’ of media and the judicial system to promote credibility and mind conditioning. It is expensive, as `public relations’ activity needs expertise and diligent execution. It is usually handled by professional media players and, of course, under the control and supervision of an active legal counselor. “In criminal cases the `use’ the tactic is part of the `social consciousness’ effort to level the playing field. When will it stop? Once the sensational case reaches the Court, it will cease as lawyers, as a rule, will be conscious of the sub-judice rule. Atty. Ray B.
