Jovito Salonga, shared on March 09, 2014 in Facebook an article that appeared in the online magazine “CharismaNews”, which talked about the conversion of a Christian pastor and his wife to Roman Catholicism, after serving the Christian church he founded some 30 or so years ago. Here are portions of that article: “During his Sunday morning service, Ulf Ekman announced the he and his wife, Birgitta, are converting to Roman Catholicism. Ekman is the founder of Word of Life, a megachurch in Uppsala, Sweden. Newsreports and blogs coming out of the nation reveal the congregation was `partially stunned’, after hearing what was packaged as a `special announcement.’ The theme was `Follow the Lamb Wherever He Goes.’ “…`For Birgitta and me, this has been a slow process were we have gone from discovering new things, to appreciating what we have discovered, to approach and even learn from our fellow Christians,’ Ekman says on his ministry website. `We have seen a great love for Jesus and a sound theology, founded on the Bible and classic dogma….” -ooo- NO “BORN AGAIN” IN THE BIBLE? On April 28, 2013, I wrote here: “Last Saturday’s praise and worship service… of the Anak Ng Diyos Kadugo Ni Kristo (AND KNK) Church, an interesting issue cropped up, prompted by a question of one of its members---in the discourse between Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, and Nicodemus, narrated in John 3 of the Bible, did Jesus really say `born again’? “The question was apparently prompted by AND KNK’s doctrine that it is not a `born again’ church, but something else---AND KNK is a church that, according to John 1:12-13, is born `from above’ or, more appropriately, born from God. This is the reason why AND KNK members are not called `born again Christians’ but “born of God believers”. “What is the basis for this AND KNK doctrine? It is based on several Biblical verses that start with John 3:3, where Jesus is supposed to have instructed Nicodemus how a man could enter the kingdom of heaven. In the New International Version (NIV) translation of the Bible (which is basically the Born Again Bible), it is there said that for a man to enter the kingdom of God, he must be `born again’. Unfortunately, however, this translation is clearly a flawed one. -ooo- FLAWED TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE: “Why is the NIV translation of what Jesus said a flawed one? This is because even the NIV admits that flawed translation, by adding a footnote on the phrase `born again’. When the NIV version of John 3:3 is read very carefully, that footnote will standout, and when it is read at the bottom of the text, it is there admitted that what Jesus really said was not `born again’, but `born from above’, or `born of God’. “Which, precisely, is what John 1:12-13 is saying: those who receive and have faith in Jesus become children of God, who are then born from God. It is therefore clear that for man to enter the kingdom of God, he must be born from God, not born again. This assumes great significance when we consider that man is really sinful (Romans 3:23, Genesis 6:7), so that even if he is `born again’ a million times, he will remain a man who is full of sin. “Consequently, it is clear that the NIV and Born Again translations of John 3:3 would be totally misleading, first because `born again’ was not what Jesus meant, and secondly, because being `born again’, according to the other verses of the Bible, would not really mean salvation.
