KTM Update: General Mood Outside of the fact that I am - TopicsExpress

KTM Update: General Mood Outside of the fact that I am absolutely exhausted, mostly due to lack of sleep, I am feeling pretty good. I met with our guide this morning to do my gear check and he gave me a lot of confidence that what we are doing would be stupid easy if it wasnt for the elevation. He re-enforced that if I am breathing heavy I’m working too hard and should just slow down. I am crazy anxious to just get this show on the road. This town is interesting and all that, but I’d rather just get a move on it! 2 more days until I lift off. I am planning on doing a walking tour and a guided tour of the temples when we get back from Everest. That is something I am really looking forward to since I have been fascinated with Hindu culture for most of my life. When I first started considered this trip, I didn’t want to just hike up to everest base camp in the fall with a bunch of hikers. I wanted to be part of a spring climbing expedition and be a part of the insanity that IS the Everest climbing season. I am extremely happy to report that dreams really do come true! Every time I look our the window and see another load of duffles with another guide company name/logo on them I get tickled knowing that I get to be a prt of the process. There are only 18 summit teams here this year including ours that are going up the south face. There are about 8-10 other teams attacking the mountain from the north on the Tibet side. There are at least 8 film crews including a Hollywood production of Into Thin Air, 2 crews following the HiMex expedition who are already 4 days up the trail toward base camp, a major discovery channel crew is here to both film and broadcast LiVE some dude who is going to jump off the summit in some sort of bat suit and try to fly down to base camp on live tv. I’m having fun meeting all the folks on our team and will meet with the whole team of 5 climbers, 16 base camp Trekkers plus the guides – tomorrow afternoon and then off to a team dinner in Thamel. I met Paul Rogers earlier today. Paul is a legendary guide who is known as a story teller and has an incredible resume spanning decades of guiding on the crazy trips that very few others can guide. Our own 7 Summits rock star will be arriving tomorrow morning with his family. He summited Everest two years ago and is bringing his wife and kids up to base camp this year. It’s truly a blast just being here and being part of it all with a major expedition. I cant wait to get started.
