Karl Marx once said “a nation that ceases to produce rises - TopicsExpress

Karl Marx once said “a nation that ceases to produce rises toward extinction” that quotation reminds me the situation we are in to in my country; productivity and employment drought. The word productivity connote productive, fertile or efficient. It is link with the rate at which goods or services are produced by substantial number of workers. Productivity hence serves as a catalyst of employment. How productive are we as a nation? Who should be productive? Is there any available avenue for productiveness? Nigerians are known to be hard working or should I use our street term “born hustler”. However this hard working nature of ours is not reflecting in our economy, the reason for this is not far fetch- misplacement of priority. Instead of our government to encourage and enforce if need be programs that will make the youth and other working age to be productive. They have venture into quick wealth or sordid materialistic attitude. With the gift of able body men Nigeria has the level of productivity will be high had it been proper measures have been taken by the government. As to who should be productive I want us to know that for a nation to attain rapid economic growth, every living soul in the land must be productive. Nigeria should take a leaf from those nations who have attained economic growth. The example of some Asian countries such as South Korea, china and Japan, how they were able to attain their economy growth within a short period of time especially Japan who was able to recovery economically from the rampage of the World War II. From top to the bottom of the ladder discipline and austerity measures should be taken. The expensive life style of our leader should be discourage or totally abolished. Imagine she says “Nigeria is broke” while the politicians continue to in affluence at the detriment of the masses that is bad and it should be put to an end. Is there any available avenue for productiveness? Yes. It is unfortunate that our government focus majorly on oil sector for revenue generation while neglecting other viable areas; such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism etc. While other sectors can contribute toward revamping the economy, agriculture sector on its own can sustain the economy if properly utilized. History can still remind us beautify infrastructures that were put in place in place in the early stage of our amalgamation. Cocoa in the west, palm in the east and groundnut in the north all these and many more agricultural produce contributed to the developmental mission of our hero past. With the increase in the level of unemployment and economic hardship facing the nation it become expedient for Nigerian government to key into agricultural potentials as used by our past hero. Agricultural revolution or state of emergency should be declared. It is a common saying that a hungry man is an angry man. Nigeria is currently the highest importer of rice and other commodities in the world. If food productions say for instance the rice we import is aggressively produce locally both for local consumption and export thereby reducing the rate of import the foreign earnings will increased. Each state in the federation has it area of comparative advantages all these should be note and utilized so that there is great yield in production. Since the majority of the youth are unemployed, they should be encouraged to venture into agriculture sector. This can be achieved if subsistence farming is replace with mechanize farming with latest technology. Transportation system telecommunication should be extend to the rural area so as to encouraged urban-to-rural movement. Subsidy, loans and insurance should not only be for oil sector alone it should include agro sector. Produce coming from the farm should be processed and packaged locally for sales and export. Importation of goods made locally must be ban out rightly. Conclusively, diversification is not but the only way out of this economy stagnant. The diversification should accommodate other viable sector to grow. While our king enemy corruption should be reduced to the barest minimum.
