Hudson, NY – Kate Knapp will be the featured artist at the 510 Warren Street Gallery for the month of November with an opening reception on November 8, 2014 from 3 pm to 6 pm. In this show, Knapp is showing us NYC through her eyes, the eyes of an artist who appreciates the energy and light of the city and renders it lovingly in oils on canvas. Having been trained in the Impressionist school, Knapp has used color to describe light in the last 45 years of painting with watercolors and oils. She has studied Manhattan from Harlem to SoHo as one might study Stonehenge. Huge manmade edifices lined up in just the right way so that the sunlight and nightlight reflect on them to show us a new vision. These familiar neighborhoods and landmarks look fresh to us. Knapp has painted unique perspectives of the massive shapes and patterns of architecture along with the inevitable New Yorker moving through the cityscape. Though we may think we know these streets very well, these paintings allow us a different intimacy. The application to canvas from brushes loaded with paint both directs our attention in and around the picture plane and is a metaphor for the vibrant energy of the city. No need for a southerly trip on the Amtrak during the month of November. Manhattan is right here in Hudson.
