Kathryn Macdonald 11:10am Jul 26 NEW GLASGOW – The New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee has announced the details for its free day program, part of the three-day music event taking place August 2-4. The Scotsburn Dairy Children’s Jubilee is an afternoon for children to play, jump,sing and dance. There are games, bouncy houses, and children’s entertainers. This year’s featured entertainers will be Scotty and the Stars and Sunshine Sue. Scotty and the Stars is a children’s musical entertainment group that delivers positive messages, active participation and musical education through original music and enthusiastic live performances. Scotty and the Stars were recently announced as the winners of the CBC Kids Great Viewer Voted Song Search. Sunshine Sue’s presentations are dynamic and interactive. Her original CD Sing Little Children, was nominated for an East Coast Music Award, and has won countless fans in her community. The Scotsburn Dairy Children’s Jubilee will take place in Carmichael Park on Saturday, Aug. 3, noon to 4 p.m. Also on Saturday is the TD Bank Songwriters Circle at 1 p.m. at The Celtic Circle. This year’s interactive circle will feature Dave Gunning, Carmel Mikol, Jim Dorie, Cyndi Cain and several teen songwriters who participated in the Teen Songwriting & Performance Workshop hosted by Carmel Mikol in the leadup to the Jubilee. On Sunday, August 4, Carmichael Park will host a full afternoon of music beginning at 1 p.m. with a Youth Stage, featuring Aliah Wilson and Jensen Patriquin. Wilson has no formal training but is quickly building her performance CV having participated in junior and senior high school talent shows, the HERH Youth Benefit Concert, Coffee house fundraisers, performing in church, and being cast in the CEC musical. Patriquin has participated in the School of Rock camp, performed at numerous events including at the Wentworth Rec Center, weddings, and junior and senior high school talent shows. Patriquin also auditioned for YTV’s The Next Star and Canada’s Got Talent. At 2 p.m. the Fusion Stage will feature an hour of international song and dance, presented by the Multicultural Association of Pictou County. Vocalist Sally O’Neill will perform as well as the band Stillwater Sun. At 3 p.m. The Pictou County Blues Society presents over two hours of Blues music, featuring Eileen Joyce and Catahoula Brown. Eileen Joyce has been called Nova Scotia’s Lady of The Blues because her soulful energy enhances her singing, performing and song-writing talents. Joyce has a strong and distinctive voice and together with her band they inspire and have a sophisticated sound in Blues, R&B, Gospel and Jazz. With three albums and three nominations to his credit, Blues/Americana Artist Catahoula Brown is in demand at events across North America. The Jubilee’s free day program is in addition to three days of main stage music featuring more than 15 acts including Great Big Sea, The Sheepdogs, Matt Mays, Gloryhound, The Stanfields, Dave Gunning, and more. The New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee will run August 2-4th. This award-winning festival is celebrating its 18th year in 2013.
