Kati Morton talks about ways you can support those in your life who struggle with mental illness during the holidays. We all know the holidays can be extra stressful, and they can be even harder for those who struggle with mental health issues. So here are some helpful tips you can consider this holiday season when getting together with someone in your life who struggle with mental health issues. 1. Including them in holiday activities at the level they are able to participate. This helps set the whole get together up for success! So they feel good and the event is enjoyable for all. 2. Setting specific dates and times for family traditions. This way it gives them things to look forward to as well as giving them options with regard to what they want to participate in. 3. Planning ahead with them about who is going to be at each event. This can also give us time to talk to that family member or friend who has maybe said some hurtful things in the past. That way we can all get together and enjoy ourselves. 4. Be flexible and set reasonable expectations!! No ones life is perfect and not all situations will turn out just as we had planned, but we can work together to make it the best it can be!
