Keeping it Simple Life supplies us with all we need to live a Godly life in the moment….yet we complicate life….in seeking a different life than what we have in the moment….we look for the greener pastures….we look for easier faster ways….that really don’t save us any resources such as time or money….electric car windows are an example of this…how much of an effort was it to build a window with a handle or how much effort was it to roll it up or down….how much time and effort does complicating the simple things save us? We try to fix what is not broken…..and yet everything breaks down…what is made of parts comes apart….we increase the number of parts….and we increase the chances of it breaking down…..in the end we spend up more resources in maintaining complicated things than we do simple things. I am in no way discounting technological advancement…without it medicine would not be what it is today…and many would not live as long as they do….such advancements maintain life….yet when we work hard to seek ease and comfort…we end up working hard…we end up working instead of resting…and defeat our own purpose….we waste our time here in the seeking of a comfortable …secure life…and miss the living of life itself. We work longer hours…..fight more traffic…fight more people…..end up stressed out…and inherit the diseases that come with the stress……all to have a “better” life…or we justify this saying it’s to give our children a better life…..Yet we come home stressed out and verbally abuse them…alienate them needing time to chill out from the stress….don’t spend time living with them…..so that they can have a “better” living? We think the end justifies the means…one day…this will make life better for them….yet we fail to see that today is the only day we can really give them. How time flys by when we are caught up in the trance of chasing after life rather than living it. If we are fortunate we wake up from it before we die…usually when our time here is about over…or some tragedy befalls us stripping us of the shell of our false self…..we look back and wonder where our life went…we blinked our eyes and we got old…..we are somewhat like the fable Rip Van Winkle waking up after being asleep for years in the forest….in the dream....in the trance to find our family and friends all dead…or to find out we never really knew them…..for we didn’t have the time to get to know them. Should we not rather wake up and strengthen the things that remain? Invest ourselves in living life today in this moment? So that we may actually live the rest of our days here rather than sleep through them all? When we buy into the life the world tries to sell us end up with artificial life…artificial intelligence…..artificial everything…..It tells us we need to have what it offers to have a life to live…..yet the pursuit of those thinks robs us of actually living here and now….Do we really need the latest greatest gadget? The designer cloths…..the fancy car? The larger house so we can accumulate more “things” that will take up more of our time? Do we want to give our time…our life to “things”?.... or to God…..Life itself….living…Do we want to spend our life on “things” or people? Oh we say we choose God and family…..but deny it in what we spend our time pursuing. We choose “things” that take up more of our space and crowd us out of space to live in…possesions....positions…personalities… What good do the fancy foods do us when we cannot take the time to savor and enjoy them? When we eat on the run? How many animals do you see eating while they run? Yet we drive around with fast food in our mouths trying to eat drive and talk on a cellphone at the same time. And we think ourselves of greater intellect than the animals? How they must laugh at us! The human race though tends to go against nature ….most animals when lost pause and become still… the lost dog stops in his tracks waits…sniffs the air…it takes a few deep breaths. It stops and breathes…. …..catches the scent…..and finds his way back home….yet when we find ourselves lost…not knowing what to do next…where to turn next…we increase our speed…we begin to run….we increase speed and noise…and force…we go into a blind frenzy….and when we look deeply we see that inside most of the population is that sense of being lost……they can’t keep up with the pace of this world....it runs ahead of them leaving them behind…lost in the wilderness…..burdened down with broken hearts…..bodies..…minds….life becomes heavy as they try to carry it by themselves….fighting to keep it up they lose it wearing out…coming apart….growing old prematurely….getting ahead of themselves they lose themselves….for the real self is where one is now…..not in the future ..…and that is what getting ahead in life is really about. The world is filled with lost…scared people…..much like a room full of blind people……full of people that are afraid to open their eyes and see…. in a sinking ship….not knowing where they are…and running about frantically screaming and hitting one another looking for a way out…if they could only be still…open their eyes and see they would see the escape hatch that they stand upon…..the present moment in God’s presence. Christ has unlocked that escape hatch…. and called out…Follow me!.....it’s a narrow hatch…..one cannot climb through it wearing many cloaks with pockets full and backpacks on…..Yet those who can strip themselves of what keeps them from fitting in the doorway find a better life on the other side. The narrow way is a simple way of abandonment …surrender…acceptance….Life is deep...it depths are fathomless....and simplicity......not complexity....allows us to know it as the whole....instead of merely ripples of waves on its surface. May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be multiplied unto you as you continue to walk in awareness of his presence in the present moment Selah
