The Gunners left back was sent for an early bath by referee Andre Marriner, despite the England midfielder actually being the guilty party. Oxlade-Chamberlain dived to keep out Eden Hazards seemingly goalbound shot and stopped it with his hand. But instead of dismissing him Marriner chose to give Gibbs his marching orders instead. But speaking on talkSPORT former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher confirmed that if the red card is rescinded retrospectively the ban can be transferred to his teammate. Indeed back in November Preston striker Joe Garner was banned after the fact after Neil Kilkenny won his appeal against his own red card. Kilkenny was dismissed by mistake following an altercation between Garner and Port Vale midfielder Anthony Griffith. The FA earlier took to Twitter to clarify the rules on the appeals process for such instances. Clubs can appeal mistaken identity to the FA, although the FA can pro-actively review also, they posted. Following a red card clubs can also review possibility of a wrongful dismissal claim to the FA, unless dismissal is for 2 yellow cards.
