Krewe de Jeanne dArc seeks local student Joan of Arc for Annual Joan of Arc Parade Held each Twelfth Night (Joan of Arcs Birthday) in the French Quarter FREE TO ENTER--APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE! Deadline to Enter: December 6, 2013 for January 6, 2014 Parade Each year, the Krewe de Jeanne dArc selects a Maid of Honor to ride in costume on horseback as one of the Joans of Arc in the annual Joan of Arc Parade, held each Twelfth Night, January 6th, a.k.a. Joan of Arcs birthday. The young woman who is selected is provided with a costume, a horse (and complimentary horseriding lessons), a wooden sword to carry and keep, plus 16 decorated wooden swords to hand out to parade-goers. The application process is simple: 1. Young women ages 16-19 in the Greater New Orleans area with proven leadership abilities and community involvement-- and some French language skills--are eligible to apply. 2. Applications can be downloaded at joanofarcparade or requested by email at joanofarcparade@gmail. In addition to the application, a short essay and a letter of recommendation are required. 3. Deadline to apply is December 6, 2013--one month exactly from Joan of Arcs January 6th birthday and the parade. Here are some excerpts from the application: Eligibility: This contest is open to young women, 16-19 years old (the ages of Joan’s most notable feats and trial), who have shown unique leadership abilities and are currently or have recently studied French in high school, college, or at home. (The candidate must be able to speak some French in conversation and be able to represent Joan for media opportunities, public presentations, and at the parade). This contest does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ancestry or creed. The three top candidates will receive a brief phone interview to assess French fluency, confidence and leadership abilities.
