LATEST ON OROP Over 11 weeks have passed regretfully, the Govt letter on the implementation of OROP has not been issued. It is now learnt that the Service HQs had prepared the Draft Govt Letter (DGL) and presented to RM on 22th April 2014 as per the accepted definition and its implication which are as under:- (a) “OROP implies that uniform pension be paid to the Armed Forces personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement, and any future enhancement in the rates of pension to be automatically passed on to the past pensioners. This implies bridging the gap between the rate of pension of the current pensioners and the past pensioners, and also future enhancements in the rate of pension, to be automatically passed on to the past pensioners”. (b) “Pensions of past defence retirees will be equal to that of a person with same rank and length of service and same group retiring wef 01 Apr 2014, and future enhancement in the rates of pensions will be automatically passed to the past pensioners”. 3. The officials of the MoD ie CGDA & DESW however, have diluted the definition and prepared another DGL which is not OROP. Why such an attitude on the part of bureaucrats at the MoD to deny the soldiers their due, is not understood. It is reiterated that, all past defence pensioners are to be given the same pension which is being paid to the similar type ie (Same Rank and Same Service) of defence pensioners who have retired on 01 April 2014 and all future enhancements in pensions are to be automatically passed to past pensioners.
