#LEGACY_D_AMBASSADOR_OF_HOPE NO COMMUNICATION, NO SOCIETY The essential relationship of Communication and Society Not withstanding we must know what a society is and what communication is all about. Lets start off with identifying what is communication and what is society. so, what do you know about this? Communication they say is the soul of life. human lives depend on communication, we live to communicate. Communication according to our intro to comm, communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient, although the receiver need not be present or aware of the senders intent to communicate at the time of communication, communication can occur in distances time and space. Communication requires that the communicating parties share an area of communication and common point of view. The communication process is complete once the receiver has understood the sender. communication is expresses through many ways. either as nonverbal, oral or visual as long as the sender is conveying his or her idea or feeling to the said recipient or receiver. Communication is the beginning of human existence. Communication has made it possible for man to survive in all environment, everything about him is communication and throughout his life he communicates. But what exactly is this all important communication? well find that out later. so, what now? now that we have an idea what communication is, let us now identify what society is. A society may be described as a group of people who have lived together, sharing common values and general interest long enough to be considered by others and themselves as a unit,a society or a human society is related to each other through persistent relations such as social status, roles and social networks. it is also a large social grouping that shares the same geographical territory and is subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. society is an organization or association of persons that is engaged in a common profession, activity, or interest. society is the place we people exist as one. a group of people. The essential relationship of communication and society is that the world came to existence as a result of communication, therefore everything in it must definitely communication. Therefore a society can not exist without communication, in other words, communication must take place before a given geographical area can grow to become a society. Understanding the different theories of communication, I finally able to determine the essential relationship of communication with society. I learned different communication theories, as what I have learned and of course with a little help of the world wide web I am able to discuss briefly the said theories: *Authoritarian theory which according to this theory, mass media, though not under the direct control of the State, had to follow its bidding. Under an Authoritarian approach in Western Europe, freedom of thought was jealously guarded by a few people (ruling classes), who were concerned with the emergence of a new middle class and were worried about the effects of printed matter on their thought process. Steps were taken to control the freedom of expression. The result was advocacy of complete dictatorship. The theory promoted zealous obedience to a hierarchical superior and reliance on threat and punishment to those who did not follow the censorship rules or did not respect authority. Censorship of the press was justified on the ground that the State always took precedence over the individuals right to freedom of expression. *Libertarianism or Free Press Theory. This movement is based on the right of an individual, and advocates absence of restraint. The State was thought of as a major source of interference on the rights of an individual and his property. Libertarians regarded taxation as institutional theft. Popular will (vox populi) was granted precedence over the power of State. *Development Communication Theory, This theory vehemently opposes the commercialization of modern media and its top-down non- participant character. The need for access and right to communicate is stressed. Bureaucratic control of media is decried. The underlying fact behind the genesis of this theory was that there can be no development without communication. This theory vehemently opposes the commercialization of modern media and its top-down non-participant character. The need for access and right to communicate is stressed. Bureaucratic control of media is decried. With the following theories, we can therefore conclude that society can surely not exist without communication. what is society without communication? How can not only our society but the world exist and understand each other without communicating? By the use of media, one can express more thoroughly his or her feeling or idea which people around him/her is being able to receive the said point of view. There are two types of media, the new media and the so called traditional media. New media is the various technology that helps us communicate faster and connect with the people that are away from us. This are the so called social networking like the internet- facebook, twitter, yahoo mail, audio-visual such as webcams, youtube and many more and as for the traditional media, it is the most common form of communication of all. This are the television, radio, cellular phone, air mail, news paper, billboards, magazines, books, movie theater commercials and much more. To be continued.... #LEGACY Light to d World!
