LETS BUILD A DUNGEON! Earlier in the week, I mentioned how some wrapping paper will have grid on it. So I thought this week Id try some. This is only a portion of a dungeon Im making here, so hopefully my players wont see more than they should. 1. Establish size. The world is a big place, But not everything in it is. Are you in a wide open battlefield? Make it wide and rolling! Are you underground? In an inn? A castle dungeon? Make it smaller! 2. Make boundaries defined. I use sharpie to define what is wall, fixed items like pillars and large objects that function as cover/concealment, stairs, etc. Make them profound so players dont try to walk over or through them. 3. Color it up! A vibrant map draws in players. It adds depth, and makes perils, obstacles, and changing terrain more prominent. Note: wrapping paper doesnt take color well. And it is made to rip. So be careful. 4. Fill it with things! Players shouldnt see everything. Make notes on a side sheet of paper for monsters, traps and their save rolls. This speeds up dungeon time and makes it more fluid. When the time comes Ill be adding tokens on this map to indicate monsters and such. 5. Conceal! If your dungeon has multiple layers dont show them all right away to your players. Cover halves of maps, like the section past my door, with thick paper so players cant see it till they reach it. Have fun guys! https://giveforward/fundraiser/1x87/the-critical-cause -Toolmaster
