LIghts, camera — action. It was a busy Sunday on the Base at the RCA Museum and an adjacent field acting as a battle scene from First World War France. Filmmaker Graham Street was busy calling action and cut while his soldiers were put through their paces for the third instalment in the documentary series. RCA Museum director Marc George was also on scene to add his expertise as he retold the story of the brothers from Boissevain who fought and died on the muddy battlefields. He was able to give the soldiers acting the parts an idea of what happened on the battlefields as they acted out what Street envisioned trying to tell the story, which George will narrate. Filming for this project took place initially in the spring and summer of 2012 and featured many locations throughout the Westman area including the Town of Boissevain, Camp Hughes Provincial Heritage Site and the RCA Museum in Shilo. The filmmakers also traveled to France, following the footsteps of the Westman soldiers who fought for their country in the iconic Battle of Vimy Ridge. This documentary was produced in association with MTS TV ‘Stories From Home’ and the first of three films was debuted in the fall of 2012 part of The Brandon Film Festival’s 2012 fundraising efforts, and was shown at the Evans Theatre on the campus of Brandon University. The second of the documentaries was shown in the fall of 2013, also at the Evans Theatre. These broadcast-length documentaries, feature the stories of three men from Western Manitoba who fought for Canada during the First World War. This community-expression documentary is produced by Street Media Inc. and is written and hosted by George.
