Ladys story: Lady is a 19 year old appaloosa mare who joined the Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary family just over 2 years ago. She was pulled from a local feedlot where she waited to be shipped to slaughter. She was also pregnant. It was a bit of a guessing game as to when she would give birth. Originally the vet suspected it would be late spring or early summer. We waited and waited but Lady refused to give us any signs! Then on August 22, 2013, Lady gave birth to a perfect little foal without any complications. Blue arrived safe and sound much to everyones relief! Lady is quite the character! She shares the main paddock with Chances, Nikita and Maya. She has a routine of coming into the barn for breakfast and dinner. But she refuses to go back outside unless she gets her apple treats. Being an older girl, Lady has a couple of medical issues including heaves. She is on medication to help with her condition but overall has been doing great! Lady is an important part of the sanctuary and will live out the remainder of her life with us, knowing nothing but love, kindness and understanding.
