The text under the photograph reads: This livery stable stood on Orange Avenue, Suffern, next to the Eureka House and was run by Tom Ford. He also had second hand wagons for sale. Other owners of the establishment were Pete Finegan and Dorrie Randolph. The sign on the vacant land reads This Plot Offered at a Bargain. J. E. Sherwood. This photo was taken before 1900 and was supplied by George Carroll. The bottom photograph is of the Rockland Hotel and the surrounding area on Orange Avenue, before 1915. The text under this photograph reads: You are looking at Orange Avenue, Suffern, near the Lafayette Avenue intersection and north towards the Haverstraw Road on Wayne Avenue. The block shown included Hamels Boston Stone Dry Goods store, J. Wasmers news depot, and the Rockland House Hotel. The block was destroyed by fire around 1915.
