Lampedusa over and over and over again.... On behalf of us, all, Women for Change in Eritrea, we dedicate this touching and inspiring music by our brother and delay fithi, Mihreteab Michael, Mama Tihemena Ala, to all of our brothers and sisters who are suffering and dying while I write at this very moment. Through his profound lyrics, our brother, Mihreteab, has captured the true essence of what our beloved nation ERITREA, and her children has become. Just a few days ago bodies washed ashore, 30 miles, east of the capitol of Tripoli; when about 200 migrants crammed themselves into a row boat, in search of freedom; yet instead some met with death, and the body count still continues. Eritreans are suffering and dying every day, finding themselves in the middle of violent clashes and riots, in Israel and most recent, Calais, becoming a commodity just like the Atlantic Slave trade in the 1800s and being sold as slaves in the lawless and corrupt Libya; and even if they escape the hands of human traffickers and smugglers, there really is no escaping, the depth of the seas, where as we saw this last week, many drown and die, in search of FREEDOM. Everyone kept telling me you have to listen to, Mama Tihemena Ala, and I did just that. I sat down and really listened to the cries of our beloved nation and our people, through this beautiful piece and decided to share my gratitude to Mihreteab Michael for such a bittersweet message; and on behalf of your sisters for change in Eritrea, let us all use this time to reflect and remember that Lampedusa is happening everyday and that Mama Tihemem Ala. May God help our people and help us to genuinely help them and continue to ask, Hawaka Abeylo. Thank you Mihereteab Michael for creating such inspirational art for the people.
