Last night around 9:30 while sitting on my front step I observed a kid go up and try to steal my neighbors ceramic duck. As I approached the young man he puts the duck down and says I was just looking at it. I pulled up my gr8ful thermal shirt to expose my two sleeves and tell him you think Im buying that. I must say the look on his face was priceless. For the next 8 minutes we talked he realized honesty was his best bet.Towards the end of the 8 minutes I got to share with him a little bit of myself. I got to share with him one of my early experiences of being a criminal. Ironically I have my own duck story. At the age of 14 somehow we got hooked up with a cab driver that would give us $20 bucks for a concrete duck that was a popular lawn ornament oh so many years ago. He was stealing a 3 pound ceramic duck me I was taking a 50 pound concrete duck. Kids got it easy these days:-) Out of all of that the thing that struck me the most was my 21 year old duck abduction days allowed me to connect with a 16 year old kid in a way that would be hard for a non duck abductor to connect. This experience was a blessing to me because it woke me back up to the understanding that everything in life happens for a reason and if we can hold our hearts open the answers will be given. Not for one minute did I ever imagine that something I did many years ago would allow me to connect in a way with a kid to make a true change in his life.Through our duck abduction experience hopefully this young lad can redirect his life. I was able to see Codys heart open when I got him to see through our actions, we can make others suffer. I believe me and Cody shared a blessing together and for that I give thanks. For anyone reading this from Florissant if you had a concrete duck go missing in the early 90s it wasnt me. Sending love to all my beautiful friends. In loving kindness. Dave
