Last weekend I climbed 110 stories to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice on this day 13 years ago. Take a moment today to remember those that bravely went into those towers to save others and the innocent civilians that had there lives taken. Below is a little about the firefighter that I climbed for: Firefighter Lake. May we never forget. William Lake had been a firefighter with the FDNY for 20 years (9.10.2001). On 9/11, Firefighter Lake and 6 others from Rescue 2 were ascending Tower 1 of the World Trade Center to respond to maydays and fight fire on the 83rd floor when the tower collapsed. He was 44 years old when he passed away and left behind his wife and 7 year old son. Among with his many rescues throughout his career he was presented the Dr. J.W. Goldenkranz Medal in 1994. This medal is awarded to honor “the heroic efforts of the officers and firemen, all of whom perform their duties at extreme personal risk.”
