Latest News 21 February 2014 Programme Officer EU About the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat The Pacific Islands Forum was founded in August 1971 and comprises 16 independent and self-governing states in the Pacific. Its Leaders meet annually to develop collective responses to regional issues. The Forum’s administrative arm is the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, based in Suva, Fiji. It acts as the Secretariat for Forum-related events, implements decisions by the Leaders, facilitates the delivery of development assistance to member states, and undertakes the political and legal mandates of Forum meetings. The Forum Secretariat is also mandated to coordinate the implementation of the Pacific Plan for strengthening regional cooperation and integration. The Forum Secretariat is an Equal Opportunity Employer. About the Opportunities An exciting opportunity exists for a Programme Officer EU to join the Secretariat. Reporting to the Technical Adviser EU, the successful candidate will be assisting in promoting and enhancing development cooperation initiatives between the Pacific ACP (PACP) countries, Forum Secretariat and the European Union by facilitating the coordination, communication and dialogue among PACP stakeholders and seeking complementarities and synergies between the regional and national level. Responsibilities will include (but not limited to): · Training support to Small Island State National Authorising Officers and Technical Implementing Agencies; · Support to coordination and communication; · Monitoring of regional initiatives; and · Visibility and Awareness. Applicants should have an advanced university degree in disciplines such as Economics, Project Management, Public Policy Management, or Social Science. Candidates should have up to 8 years relevant work experience in development assistance of which some 5 years has been spent in a developing country with very good knowledge of EU development policy and a broad understanding of development and sectoral issues in the Pacific Region, strong communication skills and a high level of technical competency in EDF rules and procedure About the Benefits The appointments carry competitive remuneration and benefits packages including medical and life insurance. The salary will be in the range of SDR28,242 to SDR42,364 per annum. At the 1 February 2014 exchange rate this salary range was equivalent to FJD82,386 to FJD123,582. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free. To be eligible for these positions, the applicant must be a national of one of the following Forum member countries*, EU Member States, Africa-Caribbean-Pacific (ACP) or Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member country.
