Leave without pay (LWOP) is an approved, temporary, nonpay status - TopicsExpress

Leave without pay (LWOP) is an approved, temporary, nonpay status and absence from duty, which is charged in increments of 15 mins and covers only those hours which employees would otherwise work or for which they would be paid. Leave without pay is not a matter of right for employees, except in certain cases required by statute or official policy (e.g., VA treatment of disabled veterans). See FSH Reg 690-14, Leave and Absences, for further guidance. POC: 210-221-9326
