Lesson for All Who Call Themselves Indigenous Fijians! Village elder calls for unity among the [Fijians] iTaukei Luke Rawalai Saturday, October 26, 2013 Women of Carakoro clan weep during the official remembrance cake cutting at Nabavatu Village. THE iTaukei people are living in an age where change is upon them and the survival of its race depends on who can be true to the call of the vanua and their people. People of Carakoro clan in Nabavatu, Dreketi were yesterday told they needed to be united in these changing times. Speaking at the clans first Carakoro Day celebrations, clan elder Eveni Turaganimuri told his people that they would only survive through the changes of time, whether it was bad or good, if they stood together as a clan. He said there would be nothing difficult to achieve if they were united as members of the clan. He said they had to take a look at themselves and review their actions, know where they belonged and know their customary roles. Mr Turaganimuri also urged them to fear nothing because it would be a hindrance to their struggles to progress. He encouraged his people to fear God and to always put Him first. A remembrance cake was also cut during the special occasion to commemorate the lives of the elders of Carakoro who had passed on. Women of Carakoro wept as they remembered their loved ones. Clan leader Waseroma Lava said the Carakoro Day would be an annual event to fundraise for development. The chief guest at the occasion was 101-year-old Miliana Tinaiqica, who is the mother of Fijis ambassador to Korea Filimone Kau.
