Lets play a game of guess who. Ill give you some words and see if you can guess who the person is; smug, self righteous, conceited, pompous, unprincipled, treacherous, deceitful, slippery, underhanded, egotistical, self centred. Ok, so maybe that doesnt narrow it down to one person in this case. How about a clue. In October 2007 this man (I use the word man in its loosest possible context) promoted himself, and his involvement in the Madeleine McCann case, at Coventry University. He titled this public display of self gratification Missing Madeleine McCann: The perfect PR campaign During the hour long talk he bathes himself in glory and self worth about what a fine job he had done. How very hard he has worked to earn his reported £75,000 a year salary. A figure that could well have risen after he resigned from his position with the Government to work solely for his friends the McCanns. A very strange move considering he believed Madeleine would be found safe and well. When this man stepped down from his position of head of the media monitoring unit (where have we heard those words strung together before?) with the Labour Party, he gave this explanation: More importantly, I have [resigned] because I feel so strongly that they are innocent victims of a heinous crime that I am prepared to forego my career in government service to assist them. Yeah righto, not even the staunchest of pro McCanns would have swallowed that corker. Back to his speech in Coventry, and the slippery eel talks with great bravado of how he fed the media stories, and of how, when they quoted him or the McCanns in an unfavourable light he would pull journalists to one side and say, look, if you want further co operation, this is what we said, and this is what we meant in other words manipulating the press to favour the McCanns, in exchange for stories. He, kicked off a smear campaign against Robert Murat, likening Murats involvement to that of Soham child killer, Ian Huntley. He is now planning to stand as MP for the conservative party, in the Brighton and Hove constituency. I am of course talking about Clarence Mitchell, a man who used the disappearance of Madeleine to boast of his greatness. Clarence didnt do the things he did for the McCanns out of the kindness of his heart, what he effectively did was to offer the McCanns an exchange, spin, media manipulation, and a PR campaign he described as perfect, for money, notoriety and self publicity. He saw an opportunity to permanently attach himself, like a leech, to what would become one of the biggest and longest running news stories this country has ever seen, and he did it in vulture like style. In September 2007, Carole Malone of The Sunday Mirror, launched a scathing attack on Mitchell, she wrote: He cant help the way he looks but the McCanns new PR boss, Clarence Mitchell, looks shiftier than your average car salesman. However, what he can help is the look of smug self-importance that dominates every TV appearance, a look that says: This is my moment and Im going to make the most of it. Mitchell - like everyone else involved in this case - needs to remember its not about him, its not about PR... its about Madeleine. He will serve the McCanns well if he remembers that. Opinion soon changed from The Daily Mirror though, and since that article, the rag and Mitchell have enjoyed a good understanding. What is quite outrageous though, and has now set a precedent that should never be allowed to happen again, is that suspects in a case as serious as this one, have been, with the help of Clarence cash for lies Mitchell, not only been able to win a massive amount of support from your average Joe on the street, but also been able to, seemingly at will, lie through their teeth, and cleverly execute horrendous attacks upon the PJ, Goncalo Amaral, and anybody else who dares to try and get to the bottom of what really happened to the only person who should have mattered throughout this whole ridiculous charade. Unattributable sources have long been a huge asset to the McCann media machine. How many times have we heard the lines A source close to the family or A family friend said? These people are never held accountable for what they say in the press, but because somebody said it, the press can print it, and the person who said it will never be asked any further questions because they were an unattributable source. Clever eh! One could almost call it the perfect PR campaign, if of course you were judging your campaign upon keeping the McCanns out of jail, and not upon finding Madeleine McCann, and returning her safely to her parents, which was of course the reason, or should I say excuse, Clarence no morals Mitchell gave the day he left the Government and began his crusade of corruption. May your rear quarters be forever roasted by Satans trident when the two of you meet again Pinky. Karma catches everybody up in the end.
