Like any sensible person, Im appalled by the civilian casualties in Gaza; however, it still appears to me that Hamas is intentionally provoking the Israeli attacks by turning Palestinian civilian sites into military targets, firing rockets from schools and storing ammunition in mosques. Why did Hamas begin firing rockets into Israel in the first place, and, given that Israels defenses are very effective and Gazas civilian casualties very high, why does Hamas continue to do so? It appears to me that theyre sacrificing the life and limb of their own constituents to force the Israelis to keep firing, thus turning world opinion against the Israelis. Please note that Im not arguing here whether the formation of the state of Israel was a good idea, nor disputing any of the Palestinians claims that it constituted an injustice. Im writing only about the inexplicable behavior of Hamas, which apparently wants as many civilian casualties as possible. Lets all face the fact that, if you fire rockets into someones country, they will definitely fire back!
