It has also taken the opportunity to increase its rates significantly, making them closer to that of a comfortable hotel than the one of a guesthouse. So it seems that it tries to upscale a bit. the place is nicely located on a central Ghat in Varanasi, has a beautiful rooftop terrace ( the restaurant management is separated from the guesthouse so if your breakfast is included you always have to remind them..). We had booked the biggest room overlooking the Ganga, with a very beautiful private balcony. The room has apparently been renovated recently and was very clean and comfortable, painted in bright colours. We honestly loved the balcony from which you can watch the morning bath, the Meer Ghat and read quietly. But if it has upgraded in some ways, the ganpati guesthouse remains a guesthouse and we had to ask for room service (the room was cleaned only once in our 4 nights stay, the restaurant is nice but the furniture could be replaced and the food is ok but not very tasty) and the sound insulation is not perfect. Most rooms are organized around a central courtyard and one can hear the other guests chatting quite clearly. But as a whole I still rate it very good ( although Id rather put good) since we had a wonderful time there, and a very relaxing one, away from the traffic mess of the part of the city accessible by car, so close to the ghats. I had hesitated a lot between ganpati and the more comfortable hotels on Assistant ghat and after visiting Assi ghat, we had no regret at all! since we found it way less charming. They organized pick up from airport and transfer to the train station on request and hassle free boat ride in the morning, so it was very convenient for us. Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Ganga with a private balcony are very nice. You can negotiate the price.
