Limiting limitations/ Running the sack race Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 As a junior secondary school student, I participated in the sack race and the two-legged race. You run inside a sack in one while in the other, one leg is tied to another runners leg for the race. It was a test of coordination, endurance and sportsmanship. I enjoyed the experience. As we hopped along the tracks, some fell, others tumbled and could not finish the race. I did finish the race and even won a prize. The celebration was heartwarming. But why run in a sack? Or with one leg tied to another. But this is how some people run in life. Tied up, restricted, limited, with a heavy load and disadvantaged. No wonder life rotates in circles and sluggishness is celebrated. Speed is gained when restrictions are broken and limitations destroyed. These restrictions can be man made like the sacks and the ropes. How fast can you run with a fifty kilograms bag of rice on your head. Sin limits destinies, unrighteousness grounds greatness. Crawlers may never reach their peak in many life years. Stop limiting your greatness, release your burdens and gain speed. You are being watched by great a crowd of witnesses. Enoch, Abraham, Elijah, Samson, Jeremiah, etc are watching at the sidelines. Are you going to repeat the same mistakes from the past? Your glorious destiny is at stake. Sin sinks destinies it also corrupts greatness. Jesus is waiting for you at the finishing line. Lay aside the weights; hidden habits, limiting your capacity and productivity. If only you will endure a little, you will enjoy for ever. Its time to run, great is your future. If you maintain your focus, you will reach the expected end. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faintIsaiah 40:30-31. Youth is not a substitute for grace. Grace to run well. Run free my dear, Jesus makes you free.
