Looking back on our last Civil war, it occurs to me - John C. Calhoun would be a Republican, Stephen Douglas would still be a Democratic (like his ideological grandchild, Barack Obama), and Abraham Lincoln would be running as a third party candidate (as he was then). I come to you in the midst of a great civil war. Two entrenched parties, fighting over the diminishing spoils of a people they falsely represent. It’s time to reject the party system, and return Democracy to the People.
