Louisiana State Police is closely monitoring the winter weather that is forecasted for the upcoming days and urge citizens across the state to keep abreast of the latest weather and travel conditions before traveling on roadways and potentially exposing themselves to dangerous conditions. For real time updates on roadway closures, crash locations, and pertinent safety information, stay tuned to the Louisiana State Police Facebook page, follow the LSP Twitter feed @LAStatePolice, or access the DOTD travel information database by calling 511 or logging onto 511la.org. Citizens and visitors are also encouraged to enroll and receive Nixle Alerts. To enroll for this free service, visit nixle , complete the required information, and select Louisiana State Police as your agency. Based on current weather forecasts, DOTD and LSP have developed the following proactive roadway prioritization and detour plan based on the anticipated deterioration of weather and road conditions. The closures will allow DOTD and first responders to best utilize resources in order to keep the following roads open: •I-10 from the Mississippi Line State line to I-12 will remain open •I-12 from Slidell to Airline Hwy will remain open •US 61 to US 190 Mississippi Bridge will remain open •US 190 from the Huey P. Long Bridge in Baton Rouge to Opelousas will remain open •I-49 from Lafayette to Shreveport will remain open •I-10 from Lafayette to Texas will remain open •Baton Rouge to New Orleans US 61 will remain open •I-55 from I-12 to Mississippi will remain open •I-59 from I-12 to Mississippi will remain open In the case that these main arteries begin to ice over, the National Guard will be staged with graders in Lafayette and Hammond to plow the roadways. In addition to the above listed highways, DOTD is focused on keeping the following bridges open: •Sunshine Bridge •Old Bridge in BR •Luling Bridge •Huey P. Long Bridge in New Orleans •The CCC Bridge in New Orleans Based on roadway and weather conditions, DOTD expects to start closing portions of the following roadways. •DOTD expects to close the Interstate 10 Twin Span Bridge •DOTD expects to close the Horace Wilkinson Bridge •DOTD expects to close the Audubon Bridge •DOTD expects to start closing portions of US 90 from Lafayette to New Orleans starting tomorrow. •DOTD is going to keep the Plaquemines Ferry open •DOTD has contacted the Louisiana trucking industry to remind them of possible weather and using alternate routes, such as I-20.
