MADELINE UPDATE: Just got back from spending more than 2 hours, loving on our girl Madeline. I told her about all of you, about how many are wishing her well. We had a very long talk. And a lot of quiet time too, just holding her. The vet brought in food, in hopes that Madeline would take it from us. She wouldnt touch it. So I tried feeding her by hand, she took it, then dropped it on the floor immediately. The best moment came when holding her more than an hour later, I explained to her that she needed to eat her food if she wanted to come home tomorrow. I was stunned because she instantly started struggling to get down from my lap, so I helped her to the floor and she went right to the food dish and ate over half of it!! And with gusto! There is no doubt in my mind she understood what I had said. We stayed another hour just communing. She fell asleep. Wonderful evening. As good as that all was, she isnt quite ready to come home. That was the most food shed eaten in one sitting since being admitted, and we need to be sure shes able to keep it down. In addition, the vet is going to give her an appetite stimulant. I have no doubt that by tomorrow, our Madeline will be able to come home.
