MEGA STATUS UPDATE - Mega gratitude - Mega threads for one day. Wow. 13 years ago today I watched America fall, from the roof of my temporary apartment in Long Island City. I can still remember how it smelt, when the wind briefly changed direction and brought the smoke snaking away from Brooklyn and towards us. Too many feelings and stories and realities to share here. I can say this much: It was real; and my world has changed immensely! By Christmas Id moved back to Australia and met the amazing woman who became my wife and mother of my two beautiful daughters. Thankyou Justine, Kira & Sasha for helping me understand the true meaning of life. (If there is one) Today was marked by many unique and exciting (for me) events. I sold the last copies of the initial pressing of my ballads album, THIS IS ALWAYS to a Japanese distributor, and ordered a repressing from the awesome team at Implant Media. Its been 10 months since the album was released, and the order was uncannily placed for the exact number of CDs I had left. There should still be some copies in stock at Thomas, Readings & Birdland. The same album has just been announced as a finalist for an AIR Award for Best Independent Jazz Record, along with albums by Andrea Keller Paul Grabowsky Joseph Tawadros & Gian Slater. Fine company! Much love and respect is still due for their superlative contributions to the album to: Allan Vincent Browne Jonathan Zwartz Barney McAll Ross Cockle David Darlington Luke Fraser Travelling Stranger, to my Mum Moyna, my brother Warwick, and for their help along the way: Adrian Jackson Martin Jackson Craig Fermanis Hugh Harvey & Chris Hale. Today I also finalised the deal on a new car. Well, 2nd hand, but 2006 is pretty new for me, especially compared to my previous 1987 model Honda Accord. The one before that was an HQ wagon from 1972 - [TANGENT] - Great car: Great year: Great memories; The Great Wiring Loom Fire of 98; The Great Roo to the Radiator of 99; Great-Bench-Seat-in-the-front; Great 3-on-the-tree; Great-Home-made-plywood-kick-panels-in-the-rear-to-house-the-stereo-speakers; Great-Push-Start-in-manual-in-bare-feet-on-burning-hot-gooey-tarmac-on-busy-Swan-St (and others, many others); The-Great-Climb-up-out-of-Adelaide-on-the-way-home-to-Melbourne-with-the-band-in-the-car-to-get-to-the-Stirling-wreckers-to-buy-a-starter-motor-(for $50!!)-after-push-starting-it-(again, love the multi-story-car-parks for that)-and-been-pulled-over-by-the-cops-just-after-sparking-one-up-and-explaining-why-I-wouldnt-turn-the-engine-off-on-a-15%-incline; The Great but gradual disintegration leading to the Big No Great Loss of 2004 when my Dad borrowed it for the weekend and sold it to a wrecker for a 5th of the price Id just paid for a re-conditioned alternator. Which, ultimately led to my first ever Honda GM (for GranMa), which wasnt great OR exciting, or romantic in ANY way, but it was solid, clean, and reliable, and only had 45clicks on the clock. The only time it broke down was when I forgot to put fuel in it. Yes: More than once. (In the HQ I ran out of Gas AND Petrol at least 4 times - what a dickhead - it was worth it for the look on the RACV guys faces). Well, there were a couple of other minor issues with the Honda, but they seemed to just fix themselves!! {END TANGENT} To the guys who stole my Honda and smashed it: If I ever find out who you are, I owe you a slab of beer - I would never have been able to sell that car for what the insurance company gave me for it, despite the fact that it was mechanically sound and served me well. Thanks for all the car advice everyone. I particularly enjoyed the idea of the cat-bus, the spearmint studebaker ute, the spontaneously combusting ferrari, the rocking tank, and the hovercrafts, but in the end I decided to stick with what I knew, and in a fine display of man-shopping (that works for me, give me another one just the same) I bought the third car I looked at (which was, in a way, actually the first). The first two cars the dealer showed me were (wadyknow?) Honda Accords, and the next one, at another car yard, was, you guessed it: Another Honda Accord!! Its a 6 speed manual though with only 50G on the odometer (JUST like the last one), so I decided to go with the flow. If anyone is still here… (youre crazier than me) Some fun gigs coming up with various groups soon. First off, Virus Quintet this weekend at Grumpys Green on Saturday (3.30-6) & The Pinnacle on Sunday (4-7). Hope to see some of you in the flesh. Brief gig updates to follow. Promise [brief]
