MMMmmmm.....tempeh bacon! So delicious and a pig didnt have to die for me to enjoy it! Tempeh Bacon by Robert Oser for Hippievegan (serves 3-4) Use this in place of bacon on a sandwich (TLT instead of BLT?) or as a breakfast dish or, even, as an ingredient in another dish, like on top of baked beans or crumbled and dried as bacon bits. 1 8-oz. package 5-grain or 3-grain tempeh, sliced thin 2 Tbsp. toasted sesame oil 1 Tbsp. maple syrup ¼ cup tamari A few drops of “liquid smoke” (optional) Olive oil for frying Place the tempeh slices in a shallow baking dish. Mix the liquid ingredients together and pour over tempeh. Marinate overnight or a couple of hours in the refrigerator. Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Fry the tempeh slices, a few at a time if the pan is too small. Turn 2-3 times until brown and crispy on both sides. When all are cooked, place all tempeh slices in the pan, add marinade and cook a few more minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels and use as desired. Enjoy!
