MODERATION - Always ends up being lost in translation. In the pursuit of health, weight loss or body composition you generally have people who go from one extreme to another. Yes of course you are mostly likely going to make changes or adjustments to your current/previous habits if you wish to achieve a better or improved state of health or body composition. But let me give you this example. Take a person who is say eating a totally deficient diet of which it is made up mostly of nutrient space processed foods and minimal nutrient dense whole foods etc. To them, there first move is this - remove all processed foods, because to them its what has caused the poor health and it is what everyone else says and eat a diet made up of only whole healthy foods. Again because clearly in their mind its the food type that is making them healthy and its what all the fit people do. So a couple of weeks passes and they are telling every man and his dog that eating this way is what suits them, its made them feel better and healthier plus have lost some weight too. I say congratulations. However this same individual also starts a hate campaign against those supposed foods that made them fat and unhealthy. The same foods that are now avoided like Ebola yet still binged on every few weeks. But we wont get onto that. You get the these foods are bad they made me sick and feel like shit etc etc. So now lets put some perspective on this. This individual went from a dietary intake that was uncontrolled, unmonitored portioned eating and overall lacking basic nutritional requirements. The dirty extreme. Now they are eating a more portion controlled, monitored dietary intake which now has nutritional basis behind it. The clean extreme. Wow would that thought youd feel better.... But where has the moderation gone? Is the clean extreme your true choice? Is it going to be sustainable? I challenge anyone to this. Take you clean extreme and mix it with your dirty extreme, so use some MODERATION while actually monitoring and being totally aware and on point within your ACTUAL dietary intake needs and I bet you will find that you feel as good if not better than you do on your clean extreme diet. If you had an uncontrolled, untracked dietary intake and felt like shite, its the fact you had a poor and insufficient dietary intake first and foremost. It could have been made up of this food or that food, but to say it was simply because of a particular food and when you changed it you felt better is false. You simply improved your dietary intake. So instead of having your whole diet made up of 3 cakes and 5L full strength soda, you dont need to go be vegan, eat 3kg of vegetables and drink just coconut water for days either. You can also have a piece of cake, a can of diet soda, have some veggies, some water to all of which contribute in balance while using that moderation thing in meeting your actual needs. Yes its your choice, but it should be done because you choose it, not because you believe it. Moderation = Health.
