MOVIE REVIEW TIME!! Transformers: Age of Extinction was just shy of 3 hours long and easily the best written of the entire series.. however, the previous films may not really have been the writing but the bad acting which held them back.. Shia was a weight that dragged down the first set of films from really being what they could have been.. Id give this 4 of 5 stars.. If you dont want to be spoiled by plot details, just stop reading now and go see the movie.. its worth the ticket price in my opinion.. Now, for the high points... 1. DINOBOTS!!! While I was disappointed in their lack of screen time, it was sort of expected.. and yes, they do have robot forms.. GIGANTIC robot forms that make Optimus look like the humans do when they stand next to him.. they were prisoners on Lockdowns ship which he at one point refers to as his trophy room.. Optimus breaks them out, has a brief battle of wills against Grimlock, then leads them into the final battle promising them their freedom.. 2. Galvatron is Megatron reborn.. while this was made possible by the humans (with the help of Lockdown who is also working for The Creator), based on the ending and the overall storyline, it could still lead to Unicron being responsible in a back door sort of way.. what I really loved is that the man himself, Frank Welker, is now voicing Galvatron.. he should have been Megatron in the previous films so Michael Bay kind of went in reverse here.. he really could have followed the animated film if Welker had been voicing Megatron all along and then Leonard Nimoy voicing Galvatron instead of Sentinel Prime in TF3.. oh well, its fixed now and thats what matters.. 3. Optimus and the Autobots no longer hold back from killing humans that are trying to kill them.. after the slaughter of Ratchet and the others left just four Autobots besides himself, Optimus pretty much has a meltdown.. and he kills the main human behind it all in the end.. 4. MUCH, much better acting.. Wahlberg was the same as he usually is.. Stanley Tucci is just plain awesome.. I love that guy.. and even though Im not a fan of Kelsey Grammer, he did a great job of playing a die hard (yet misguided) patriot with the CIA who formed the deal with Lockdown for the head of Optimus Prime.. the new female lead didnt have enough lines to do any damage thank God!! No movie is without low points though... 1. Early on there are some dead spaces where the story doesnt move and character building isnt taking place either.. easily could have been left on the cutting room floor.. 2. As mentioned above, lack of screen time for the Dinobots.. this is just a personal thing.. and I think most fans that grew up on the original cartoons would agree.. 3. No Decepticons.. this kind of didnt make sense to me.. I would have thought that the ones being hunted by the CIA in addition to the Autobots would have joined up to fight Lockdown and then joined Galvatron against the Autobots.. pretty much what happened in the 1986 animated movie minus Lockdown.. Anyway, all in all, I was quite happy with the film and cant wait until June 2016 when we get to see where Optimus went at the end after leaving Bumblebee to lead whats left of the Autobots, who The Creator is now that Optimus is hunting through space for him, and what Galvatron went off to plan.. they seriously set up a monster sized 5th installment..
