Maine’s independent Senator Angus King, who caucuses with - TopicsExpress

Maine’s independent Senator Angus King, who caucuses with Democrats, appeared on Fox and Friends Tuesday to discuss, among other things, the topic of healthcare. The hosts played King a clip of Obamacare architect and MIT professor Jonathan Gruber bragging about misleading the “stupid” American people when he wrote Obamacare and explaining the deceit that got it passed (illegally) through Congress. For one thing, Senator King acted like he didn’t know who Gruber was or what role he played in the passage of Obamacare. Although King was not in the Senate at the time Obamacare was passed, he defended Obamacare’s passage by saying that everyone knew there were going to be higher taxes in order to expand health insurance coverage. King then slightly changed the topic and talked about the importance of having insurance and how having insurance helped him beat cancer 40 years ago. Here’s what happened next, while Fox News hosts continued to grill King over the video. According to The Blaze: “’It has to do with having insurance, man. If you don’t have insurance, it’s a high risk,’ King shot back. Confronted again with claims that Gruber’s remarks show ‘they lied about a health plan to the American people,’ King asserted he was only ‘one guy’ involved in the creation and passage of Obamacare. He then suggested the TV hosts believe ‘people shouldn’t have health insurance.’ ‘Are you that cruel? That is what you’re saying,’ the senator added.” Actually, this has nothing to do with health insurance, or even taxes. This has to do with honesty and integrity. If the creators of Obamacare are openly bragging about how they used its lack of transparency to get it passed, one can’t help but wonder what else they tried to hide. “Pass the bill so we can see what’s in it” might be a good way to ram legislation through, but in a constitutional republic, it’s a terrible way to enact laws. What we need is to encourage citizen participation by making laws more transparent, not less. Bragging about pulling a fast one on the American people to pass a damaging law that violates every major pledge used to sell it – that makes you wonder what else such political hacks are lying about
