Man held for storming Kongowea Market, Mombasa. Anti-terror police in Mombasa are holding a man who drove into Kongowea Market at breakneck speed Sunday through the exit gate. According to the police, the man who arrived at the market at around 9am yesterday refused to have his vehicle inspected by the city askaris and instead forced his way into the market. As he was doing so, another man was blocking the main entrance to the Mombasa County fire department with a Nissan saloon car. Detectives suspect the two were working in cahoots. Anti-terror police are holding the first car. The second one was impounded by the county inspectorate but there was no information about its driver. Detectives revealed that the two arrived in Mombasa a few days ago and have been staying in the same hotel room. The man in custody, a Kenyan, has recently travelled to various parts of East and Horn of Africa regions. Mombasa County commander Robert Kitur said investigations had been launched to establish the motive of their actions Sunday. “We holding him for interrogations and trying to establish his motive of entering the market by force,” Kitur said. Kitur said they have so far found nothing suspicious in the man’s vehicle. He said police were also trying to the trace the movements since he arrived in the country and who he has met. He revealed that according to his passport, the man visited Tanzania and Ethiopia before coming to Kenya. The city inspectorate director Ibrahim Mwasafari further revealed the suspect had two driving licences bearing different names from those in his identity card. “When the city askaris arrested him and told him to show his driver’s licence we found out the man has two driving licences,” Mwasafari said.
