Mandy Dealey thinks Northwest Austin neighborhoods want a redevelopment at Austin Oaks. Shes wrong. I know the neighborhoods do not, and I stand with them. Of course, my interview was more extensive, and they only used a snippet of what I said. I am not just saying no to this application for a zoning change. I am also saying there should be no zoning change of ANY kind on this property. The developer from Dallas knew the zoning on the property when it was purchased, and there is no need for any of us to feel responsible for his desire to exceed the current zoning to become more financially successful. In Austin, we have the power to stand up and say no to development that does not match our values. When I was a Zoning and Platting Commissioner, I voted the right way when it was best for our neighborhoods and Austins future. The question is, who has the political will to do so and will fight for all our neighborhoods when Dallas developers try to turn our neighborhoods into their vision of what Austin should be? I do stand up. I have stood up. I stand and say, No.
