Manhattan Center MONET - A0989550 *** SAFER: NH ONLY *** FEMALE, BLACK, CHOW CHOW / FIELD SPANIEL, 4 yrs STRAY - STRAY WAIT, NO HOLD Reason STRAY Intake condition NONE Intake Date 01/14/2014, From NY 10452, DueOut Date 01/17/2014, I came in with Group/Litter #K14-165076 Medical Behavior Evaluation BLUE Medical Summary SCAN NEGATIVE BRIGHT, ALERT, RESPONSIVE, HYDRATED PHYSICAL EXAM-INTACT FEMALE HEMATOMA RIGHT EAR NOSE,EYES APPEAR NORMAL NO MITES ORFLEAS SEEN SWEET BUT NERVOUS NOSF Weight 31.6 A volunteer writes: Monet and Frida , two girls on the loose were found by a good samaritan who kept them for a few days and brought them to the care center to attend to their ailments. Monet is still a young dog at four years of age and looks like quite a sweet girl despite the red horn sticking out of her head. Poor Monet came in with a huge aural hematoma and had to be drained. I just want to make sure that you understand that she is no devil. Monet is a bit on the thin side and kind of disheveled although her coat is quite silky and a blend of dark and milk chocolate. Her eyes are two big , shiny and confused brown saucers that seem to say: What is going on? Why all these changes in my life?. Both Monet and Frida did not enjoy the best care in their former household. Frida is indeed very thin and carries a huge tumor under her belly. We are not here to judge of course but to make sure that we turn the page and look forward to a happy ending.Monet walks nicely on the leash and salutes in a very friendly manners other dogs, big and small. She sits next to me for caresses. I love her humid good eyes looking into mine. Somehow, I can see a very playful pooch behind Monets shyness and believe the finders comments about her:a friendly, playful and active dog. Monet has come to us for a reason…To find her a home that will offer her a nice soft pillow to lay down on and a master or family who will love her to pieces. Monet is at the Manhattan Care Center. She is waiting patiently for you. A volunteer updates: Monet has made so much progress! She is slowly overcoming her fear, happily but shyly comes out for a walk, allows petting, and even let me towel her off yesterday after a walk in the snow. She waits patiently in her kennel until someone comes to walk her. She knows her friends and responds well to them, but is still very cautious with people she doesnt know. Shes an adorable little girl, waiting for a new BFF, a person with whom she will know love, safety and security. She will blossom when she finds love. Behavior: New Hope Only A partial SAFER was conducted on Monet due to an injury to her ear and her fearful behavior. Monet was fearful on approach, but became softer once she became familiar with the assessors touch. She tolerated handling and would eventually seek affection from the assessor. Monet became stiff during the food bowl test, but did not escalate to a bite of the assess a hand. She showed no interest in the toys or rawhide. Monet did not approach the helper dog during the dog to dog item and turned her body away from the other dog. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 4. Dog freezes Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog - dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog.
