Many students at the college are celebrating record GCSE results. We are particularly pleased to see a marked rise in the top A/A* grades. A quarter of the year group gained 3 or more grades at A*/A and nearly a half gained at least 1 A*/A. This is particularly pleasing because one of our key targets from the Ofsted inspection was to improve the achievement of our more able students. Our headline pass rate for 5 or more grade Cs and above is 68%. We are also delighted to see that children of all abilities have performed very well. The pass rate for all qualifications is 99.6%. This means that no young person leaves the college this year without qualifications. This is a testament to the hard work of the inclusion team and teachers. We have also performed well on the EBACC measure with 31% achieving this very demanding qualification. Interestingly the government will use a more holistic measure for its league tables in 2016. This will measure actual progress from starting points. We are pleased to see that we have gained a good figure here. Although it is early days, this strong performance over a wider range of subjects is very encouraging and bodes well for the future. Results in English, Science, Japanese, Psychology, Business Studies, Dance, Design Technology and Media studies have improved rapidly, with all these subjects seeing rises in their pass rates. Expected progress in English is the highest it has been over the last 4 years and students have exceeded challenging targets there. The vocational subjects have also shown improvements, particularly in Health and Social care, Construction, Fashion Design, Creative Media, Public Services and Music. This is very positive and it means that many students will go on to study these subjects at A level. Principal Helen Salmon commented, ‘it is wonderful to see the hard work of our students paying off. We are very proud of what they have achieved. I would also like to thank parents for the important part they have played in supporting the students and the College. Without such strong support from parents we would not be able to do this well. Staff have also worked incredibly hard to support the students.
