March 7, 2014 A bill that would set aside up to $30 million in state funding for improving and building water systems in rural Arizona has cleared the Arizona House Agriculture and Water Committee. Sponsored by Representative Brenda Barton, the legislation known as HB 2523 would allow smaller communities throughout Arizona to connect via newly constructed pipelines to water companies. The bill would also allow provide loans for subdivided lands that are beyond the boundaries of active water management areas. Prospects for the legislation in the full House remain uncertain. Last year a bill allowing for a $30 million allocation from Arizona’s general fund to finance rural water infrastructure projects was defeated
