March Madness may be over, but health concerns about university-branded gear aren’t going away. “Almost all the university products tested for phthalates contained the plasticizers, which make plastic more flexible but are banned in US childrens products. Studies suggest that some phthalates harm reproductive function,” the Guardian reports. Since the demand for a team’s gear spikes after a win, manufacturers often use quicker, cheaper, and less-safe alternatives like phthalates-filled PVC.
