Mark Ravenhill and David Lan to help judge new playwriting award Playwright Mark Ravenhill and Young Vic artistic director David Lan have joined the judging panel for the inaugural Adrian Pagan Award, organised by the King’s Head Theatre in London. The award was launched in June in memory of playwright Adrian Pagan, who died in 2007. Pagan was a stage manager turned playwright and the new award will be open to “theatre professionals who do not describe themselves as playwrights”, such as actors, directors, designers, producers and ushers. Pagan won the Verity Bargate Award in 1996 and his play The Backroom was produced at the Bush Theatre in 1999. It was later revived by the King’s Head’s artistic director Adam Spreadbury-Maher at the Cock Tavern Theatre in 2009. Adrian Pagan Submitted plays must have a maximum of six actors and be at least an hour long. The writer must not have had a play produced professionally. The winning play will be produced by the King’s Head. It has now been announced that there will also be a prize of £2,000 for the winner. The full judging panel has also been announced. Alongside Ravenhill and Lan, it will also include Soho Theatre associate director/ literary manager Nina Steiger, literary agent Julia Tyrrell and director Mike Bradwell. Entry for the competition closes on October 31 and the winner will be announced on November 25. Scripts should be submitted to apaward@kingsheadtheatre
