Market issues at play, this however, does not lessen the need to develop alternate sources of energy !! Price Of Electricity Expected To Fall Further Published: Saturday | December 6, 2014 Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell FOLLOWING AN eight per cent fall in electricity bills to Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers in November, Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining (MSTEM) Phillip Paulwell said Jamaicans should expect to see a further decrease this month. Sheree Martin, senior vice-president of customer and corporate services at the JPS, confirmed yesterday that the company was tentatively projecting a two to four per cent reduction in their customers bills in December. The revelation was made at yesterdays sitting of the Jamaica Energy Council (JEC), which is chaired by Paulwell. The MSTEMs net billing initiative has also made a positive mark on the energy sector. The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) reported that under the pilot programme, of the 256 licences granted, 100 net billing contracts have been signed with the JPS, and 68 have now been connected to the electricity grid. These account for 1,173kw (1.1MW) of capacity from the initiative. The OURs assessment of the pilot project will lead to improvements in the timeline for processing applications and connection to the grid in the future.
