Match Report - Sunday 21st September 2014 Premier League: NotInMyMums Forest 1 v 1 Athletico Kebab (Hurst; Neaves) A massive game in the Premier League this one, with Athletico sitting top with a one point advantage over their opponents Forest. Both sides won last week but this game could go some way to deciding the league champions. A draw would of course let Lolzors back in, who currently sit 3 points behind leaders Kebab. Both teams started brightly and set their stalls out early - a win is needed if wanting silverware at the end of the season. Both teams went end to end with Jamie Hurst and Matt Neaves testing their opposite numbers. Kebab opened the scoring deep into the first half with a well worked free kick that stunned Forest, with Neaves the scorer. In the second half, things started to get feisty as both teams were pressing, and the game opened up. Forest found an equaliser through the left foot of Jamie Hurst, buried neatly in to the bottom corner. As both teams pressed for a winner, Forest conceded a needless free kick, and Hurst received a blue card for kicking the ball away. Kebab were unable to capitalise on the man advantage despite attacking in numbers. Forest soaked up theres sure and even tried to counter attack and found themselves outnumbering the kebab defence on occasions. Queens Head 5 v 1 West Dan United (Taylor 3, M.ODonoghue, Harwood; Meehan) The premier leagues bottom two sides faced eachother in another early game. United are currently struggling and look odds on for the drop but Queens earned a morale boosting 3-1 win over other relegation candidates Almighty Average last week. Queens Head started much the better and after a few minutes, they found themselves in-front and it was in-form striker Scott Taylor who finished well. It was not long before it was two, with a long ball brought down well by Taylor and he smashed low past the keeper. Just before half time, Queens added a third with Matt ODonoghue curling home brilliantly from close range bringing a very one-sided half to an end. After the break, the most unlikely of scorers Terry Harwood intercepted the ball from the United midfield before taking it past a defender and firing low past the keeper in superb fashion. United did pull a goal back with James Meehan firing home from range but it was Taylor who had the final word, again finishing well from a tight angle, giving Queens a superb 5-1 win, boosting their own survival hopes. Lolzors 1 v 2 Almighty Average (Slingsby; Jackson 2) Another vital game in the premier league with both sides needing the 2 points. Lolzors are still challenging at the top and Almighty are now very much in a relegation battle with Queens Head. Lolzors started very well and a fine early save from Adam Cabbage denied Ashley Slingsby, but only a few minutes late, a fine strike from Slingsby did find its way into the bottom corner. Almighty responded well and a fine long range effort from Dan Jackson nestled into the top right hand corner putting his side on level terms. Just before half time, Lee Fishlock was sent clear but his strike was well saved by Adam Aylward - the sides were level at half time. The second half was just as lively and Ashley Slingsby was sent clean through and after rounding the keeper, keeper Cabbage had to pull off another fine last ditch save to deny Lolzors the lead. That save proved to be vital as Almighty raced up the other end, and Josh Andrews fired an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner. Both sides continued to press for further strikes but a combination of good defending from both sides, meant Almighty held on to a vital 2-1 win, especially with Queens Head winning earlier on. A lost chance for Lolzors with both Forest and Kebab drawing earlier on, with only 3 games to go!! Division One: Team Melt 4 v 1 Team Heskey (Brown 2, Everett, Grosvenor ;Ross) Team Melt faced strugglers Team Heskey in a game that Melt needed to win to keep their promotion hopes intact. Melt started well but it was Heskey who found the opener with a strike from Paul Ross from a free kick, stunning Melt. Heskey could have raced into a 2-0 lead when Olly Terry took it past the majority of the Melt side before agonisingly entering the area before getting a shot away. But with Heskey struggling to find a second, they were always looking weak at the back, and it proved to be the case as a quick fire double via Henry Brown and Harold Everett turned the game on its head at half time. In the second half, both teams were lively in the attack with Olly Terry and Danny Dempsey both linking up well with Dempsey firing just over but it was Melt who were more clinical in front of goal, with a town adding a second and Harry Grosvenor completing the scoring, ensuring Melt remain on course for promotion! Moves Like Dejagah 1 v 0 Rockaway United (Bond) Dejagah inched nearer to the play offs with a hard earned victory over Rockaway. Both teams had chances with John Wells testing the keeper for Dejagah and Steve Hopkins firing close for Rockaway. For much of the first half, both teams cancelled each other out and there were very few clear cut chances. The second half continued as the first half ended, with both teams looking for a goal to secure a victory. James Meehan could have opened the scoring for Dejagah, if not for a firm challenge from Rockaway defender Hawkins which ended with Meehan nursing his bruises from the floor. Dejagah thought they had scored, after a saved effort bounced dangerously near the goal line, but keeper Scorah recovered well to prevent the goal. Rockaway had chances in the second half, with Billy Cooper and Bobby Godden having decent chances but unable to find a way past the Dejagah keeper. With minutes remaining a fine team move found the ball nestling in the bottom corner of Rockaways goal, giving Dejagah the lead. Rockaway were unable to recover and the game finished 1-0 to Dejagah, who now leapfrog Rockaway in the table. Call of Guti 0 v 4 Real Ale Madrid (Frenchie, Alexander, Elliot, Finch) A much changed Real Ale Madrid side thumped leaders Call of Guti in emphatic fashion, winning 4-0. The first half was very much a tight affair with neither side taking the initiative with Guti striker Jermaine Roye coming the closest with a looped volley over the keeper but frustratingly coming off the post. In the second half, Guti began to tire and Madrid started to play the better football controlling the game with Callum Alexander in particular running the show. 5 minutes into the second half, Madrid finally took the lead through Michael Frenchie and from that moment it was all Madrid, who then scored a further three goals through Ollie Finch, Callum Alexander and Elliot, giving Madrid a deserved 4-0 win. This result will please the likes of Team Melt and Charing who continue the chase for top spot. Ashford No-Stars 0 v 3 Charing FC (Steel 2, Pearce) Charing started this game knowing that both Guti and Rockaway had dropped points and a victory could propel them into a play off spot. Charing started strongly and could have been a goal up if Luca Fasoli found the net instead of the keepers right boot. Despite the early dominance, NoStars had chances, with stand in player Dan ODonkey shooting directly at the Charing keeper. Liam Steele opened the scoring after receiving a lay off from Matt Pearce. Despite the dominance, Charing went in at half time just a goal up. In the second half NoStars started well, and almost equalised after a sharp turn and shot by ODonoghue warmed the keepers hands. Charing responded to the pressure and upped the tempo, and Shaun Hardwick forced the NoStars keeper into a fine near post save. They say 1-0 is a dangerous scoreline they, and NoStars were proving this theory well, with Carl Hamilton almost equalising with a header from a corner. With the game open and both teams looking for goals, it was Charing who went close with both Matt Pearce and Luca Fasoli hitting the woodwork within minutes of each other. The Charing dominance paid off as Liam Steele added his second and Matt Pearce added a deserved third, ensuring Charings 100% record remained intact. Team of the Week:- Goalkeeper Adam Cabbage (Almighty Average) Made several fine saves for Almighty, one in particular denying Ashley Slingsby from close range. Fine performance. Defender Ollie Finch (Real Ale Madrid) Solid for his side, scoring a superb drive into the bottom left hand corner against Call of Guti Defender Henry Brown (Team Melt) Good performance from Brown scoring a brace from the back. Midfield/Attack Scott Taylor (Queens Head) Another fine performance from Taylor, scoring a well taken hattrick against West Dan United. Midfield/Attack Dan Jackson (Almighty Average) Scored a fine goal and was lively throughout for his side Almighty Average. Striker Liam Steel (Charing FC) Scored a fine brace and lead his team well in a fine 3-0 win over Ashford No-Stars Goal of the Week:- Liam Steel (Charing FC v Ashford No-Stars) After a fine team move that involved every member in the Charing team, a fine flick from Matt Pearce played in captain Liam Steel who cooly slotted the ball home to give his side the lead. Fine team move.
