Meek Is Not Weak Another character trait of one who is involved in living upside down and adopting the radical lifestyle of people who are members of the Kingdom over which Jesus reigns is meekness. Jesus said, “Blessed (or happy) are the meek.” Matthew 05:5 NIV Many mistakenly jump from meekness to weakness and equate the two. However, there is no similarity between them. Two of the strongest men who ever lived are said to have been meek. One was Moses. Surely no one would accuse this giant of an Old Testament figure of being weak. He took on Pharaoh in his Egyptian court. Pharaoh was probably the most powerful person on earth at the time of Moses, and yet the leader of the Hebrew nation boldly demanded that he let God’s people go. There is never any indication given of the weakness of Moses. He was very strong, and yet the Bible says he is the meekest man to ever live. Jesus Christ is described as meek and lowly in heart, and yet in great strength he literally changed the world. One way of describing the meekness in the Bible is “Strength under control.” Jesus said those who match this description will inherit the earth.
