Mental Training #2: Pre-race Visualization Another way to improve performance is through thinking about your chosen sport. In the days and weeks leading up to a race I will visualize myself reaching my time goals with ease (if youve seen the movie about Steve Prefontaine, Without Limits, you may be familiar with him doing that...but dont crash your car while visualizing running). If it is a really important race I will drive that last couple of miles of the course to further enhance this feeling. It can be a powerful feeling rounding a corner and knowing exactly where you are in relation to the finish line. This simple tricks may your brain think that it has done this lift/race/pace before and succeeded. This will trick your brain into performing the same feat again.
