Merovingian King Clovs I and the Arthurian Narrative: We can probabaly assume that there was an Arthur-figure who was a ruler, and that he had, indeed, used the symbols and myths of other more ancient traditions. These symbols were so widespread that he may very well have had a following in many cultures. The legends of King Arthur Pendragon and his fellowship are probably a mix of truth and fancy....Many of the story-lines within the Arthurian narrative are symbolic and carry a deeper [ie. esoteric] meanning, or moral lesson concerning the human condition and the Cosmos.... Generally speaking however, the predominant Arthurian symbols have remained consistent down through the Ages and across various cultures, although they have invariably accomodated themselves to the prevailing zeitgeist of the Age and culture in which it is being disseminated. The so called, Holy Grail symbolism, is undoubtedly the most pervasive within the context of this most ancient and arcane cosmological narrative, no less so, within the context of the Arthurian saga.... At about the same time as the historical Arthur was said to exist, another figure (whose existence is unquestionably attested to by historical record) showed up---King Clovis I of the Merovingian Bloodline. Interestingly, king Clovis I had many similarities to the legendary king Arthur. Clovis fought and defeated the Roman General Syagrius in 486 C.E.. After defeating Syagrius took the title Rex Romanorum, or King of the Romans. Clovis fought many campaigns thereafter, and died in 511 C.E.---about the same time as the legendary Arthur. King Clovis I was of the Merovingian Bloodline who were said to have claimed descent from ancient Troy, the same place that Arthurian author Geoffrey on Monmouth claimed that king Arthur and the British kings descended from. Arthurs name is very likely derived from the word artos, which means bear. The Merovingians traced theri origin to the legendary founders of Troy, which were the Greek Arkadians, who were named after Arkas, the son of Kallistro the Bear. The land of Arcadia is oft times related to (ie. equated with) the legendary City of Atlantis, which, interestingly (again), is a place for which the Merovingians claim an historic relationship with.... The historic and legendary affinities between king Clovis I and king Arthur, have lead some to surmise that king Clovis I, was in fact the historical king Arthur of legend and lore. Another intriguing note concerning this hypothesis, is that a relative of Clovis I, Sisgisbert VI, actually claimed the title of king Ursus [ie king Bear] for himself, and tried to win the French Crown from Louis II, but failed, and was ultimately exiled to England, where it is said, he became an ancestor of the Plantagenet Royal Dynasty....
