There is no doubt that mobile phone is one of the greatest inventions of our time but in the hands of students is being put to wrong use. It is difficult to understand why a student should a mobile phone when he is in his college or school. Life was going on when there no mobiles in the hands of boys and girls. We will have discuss this issue with all its implication but there is increased awareness among educationists that mobile phone is doing more harm than the good. Especially students till intermediate level should not be allowed to carry mobile phone in their institutes. My First Day at College Two years ago, when I was a school student and my brother studied at a college, I always felt a sort of inferiority when I compared myself with my brother. He was just two years older than me in age but enjoying his studies-no homework, no weekly tests, and no monthly tests, complete freedom-and I was living a life full of fear and dread. However, I consoled myself with the hope that a day will come when I will say good bye to school and enter the dreamland of college some day. I was very happy when my matriculation exams ended. In fact I was feeling like a prisoner escaped from the jail. As soon as I saw my brother on that day, I said, “Biggy, now I am your equal.” He laughed and said, “No. You’ll always be two years behind me in everything.” I wanted to hit him but he went out the room. When my result was declared, I got good marks. I went to a local college and applied for the admission. I came on the merit list of the college. I paid fee and became a college student. September 1’ 2009 was my first day at college and I will never forget that day. I was very happy on that day because I was going to enter my dreamland for the first time. I reached college before time. Some students were standing at the college gate. They welcomed me very politely. Their courtesy impressed me so much that I felt at home in their company. Meanwhile some more first students came. They treated every new students like big brothers. After some time they offered us to show us the college. We agreed. They took us at the back of the college. Some students were already there. They welcomed us in a very funny way. Now we realized where we were but we could nothing. They asked us to do different humiliating things and we had no option but obey them. They were laughing and some of us were so much afraid that they weeping. Then gentleman came there and those who were laughing vanished as soon as they caught sight of the gentleman. The gentleman asked us to go our classes. We thanked God and the gentleman and ran towards the main building. We entered a room where first was written. We had missed the assembly and our first lecture was going on. When we entered the room, the room was already full of boys. We got seats at the end of the lecture hall. The lecture was talking about the importance of college life but I was unable to concentrate what he was saying because my mind was still on what happened with a few minutes earlier. Soon our first class was over and our class started. I was still under the effect of horror of first year foolery. It was in our third class that I started feeling that I was actually within my dreamland. There were two more classes on that day. I took all my classes without understanding a single word thrust at me at all the worthy professors. When I came home, I told my brother about experiences of the first day. He laughed and said, “Do you know why college student not study anything when they come home?” I replied in negative. He said, “They do not understand anything at college.” And it took me long time to understand the wisdom of what Biggy said. Discipline Discipline means following rules and regulations prescribed for doing something. For example in college discipline means following the rules and regulations of the college and in military discipline means following the rules and regulations of military. Discipline is an important aspect of our life. Everything around us follows a set of rules and regulations. We see that these rules and regulation never violated. For example the sun rises from the east. It sets in the west. It follows a specific path when it travels from east to west. The moon never appears in the day because the sun is already there to give light and people need strong light in the day and only the sun could give this light. On the other hand the sun never comes out at night because its power light is not needed during night and people need soft and soothing light of the moon at night time. The same is the case with the other objects around us. As far as the importance of discipline in human life is concerned, it is very mush important. Without discipline life cannot exist. We need discipline for everything. We need to get up early in the morning if we want to walk on the cool grass. We need to reach our school or college on time or we will fail to attend our classes. Discipline is important for everyone but it is very much important for students. They cannot succeed without discipline. Students with good discipline remain successful not only in the exams but also in private life. It is necessary that students should learn discipline. They can learn discipline from games and sports. In fact games and sports are very good for teaching discipline. Almost all games teach discipline. Cricket is a game widely played in Pakistan. This game is good exercise of metal discipline. It does not mean that students can learn discipline only through games and sports. All activities teach discipline. For example when we do not learn our lessons, our teachers punish us. This punishment teaches us that we might be punished for not doing things in actual life. When we accept the punishment, we prepare ourselves for the punishment which may befall us in real life. Similarly we obey what our teacher orders, we prepare ourselves to obey the orders in real life. In the same way when we obey our monitor in the class, we learn to respect authority. If observance of discipline brings many goods in our life, violation of discipline deprives us of many good things. Not only this, its violation can be very dangerous not only for the violator but also for the people in general. A person who breaks a traffic signal not only endangers his own life, he also puts the lives of many other people in danger. Therefore, we must be very careful and sensitive about discipline. We should follow discipline in all circumstances and advise others to do so. Rather we should force them. Coeducation Coeducation means teaching boys and girls together in the same class room. It started in Europe but soon became popular throughout the world. At present almost all advance countries of the world are this procedure. Though it has become popular in our country as well, there are certain sections of our society who are opposing the concept of coeducation. What they say against it is important and should be considered and needs to be analyzed and discussed at length. However, the fact remains that coeducation had its utility and significance. First of all coeducation makes education less expensive. In order to teach boys and girls in separate classes we need separate rooms for both boys and girls and also separate teachers and all other teaching aids. This increases the cost of education. Coeducation solves this problem. Coeducation solves other very important issues which we are facing in our modern age. Traditionally taught women cannot learn the tame work and cooperation because of the social and emotional circumstance in which they grow. On the other hand when they study with men they watch all these things with their eyes. They also get chances to develop these traits which are finally good for the healthy growth of the society. Coeducation makes the girls less shy and boys less slack and careless. When girls get chances of talking and working with their class fellows, they develop confidence in their personality. Similarly boys studying in coeducation show better results and they develop neat and clean habits. But criticism on coeducation is very severe especially in our society. First of all it is being emphasized that educating boys and girls is unnatural because both men and women have to perform different roles in society. So the idea educating both is absurd and ill-devised. This criticism loses its force when we see that role of women have changed in our time. Now women have to perform almost the same roles which men have been performing for the centuries. One more criticism directed at criticism is that it promotes vulgarity and obscenity. This criticism may have some truth about it but coeducation can be blamed for it. Many other factors are involved in it. Our media particularly is responsible but then we can blame media only because media shows what people do or want do or can do. Nevertheless, vulgarity and obscenity are ills of our time and we must look into how coeducation is responsible for these ills. In conclusion we say that coeducation is an issue which is being discussed in our country in both ways. Some are talking and in favour of it while other are talking against it. We need not side with any line argument. We should all the goods of coeducations because we are poor and backward nation. By allowing coeducation we will open the door of education for countless men and women. On the other hand we should also see how we can fight the ills of vulgarity and obscenity if they are related with coeducation.
