More absurd crap from Saudi Arabia! Many people will jump to blame this on Islam but, like most things that happen in Saudi Arabia, Islam is innocent of this stupidity. Before Islam was revealed, women in Arabia were chattel with no rights. Newborn daughters were mercilessly buried alive by their own fathers because of the shame of having a daughter. Islam changed all that. Women were no longer chattel, they could no longer be married off without their consent, they were given inheritance rights, and were given a very high status. According to the Quran, the purest woman who ever lived is Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Prophet Mohammad had two (or three?) sons, all of whom died in their infancy. It was his wives and daughters who carried the message of Islam to the rest of the world decades after his death. So, in a sense, women are held in such high regard by God that they were entrusted with the task of safeguarding the message of Islam. Good mothers are guaranteed paradise. It was once said that if Muslim men realized how special women are to God, they would all wish to be women. Sadly, the Arabs of the Arabian Peninsula, who received the message of Islam which aimed to liberate women from their backward society, have rolled back the clock on womens rights so much that their society is almost as unjust as pre-Islamic Arabia. Prophet Mohammad would be absolutely appalled!
